With massive changes being enacted from above schooling in our ward has become an important issue for anyone with school age children or preschoolers.
I am on the board of Avondale School and have therefore been involved in discussions with the Ministry of Education with regards to Haeata and also at Community Board level with the Shirley Boys/Avonside Girls move.
Our communities revolve around our schools and we all know that many schools were real focal points in the February earthquake aftermath. Many communities have already lost their shops and community facilities, so to close and merge high performing schools is another blow to these already weakened areas.
I want to be a part of moving forward, let’s help get the schools set up well for “our” communities and let’s rebuild our sense of community from the ground up, with those who live in the community! You and me!
