So much of about this recovery hasn’t been fair, equal or just, especially for those who were marginalised before the quakes.
There has been a lot of inequality in the rebuild of the eastern suburbs and continues to be a massive hindrance to our recovery.
Too much of the last five years has been about business as usual and it beggars belief that we are only just now getting a footpath in Pages Rd connecting New Brighton to the rest of the city.
Why has it been so hard to get decent levels of service along the foreshore, or have our parks mown regularly?
Honestly, after 3 years as Community Board Chair I still cannot give a definitive reason, other than it looks very much like we get a “less than”, prejudiced, iniquitous response from many parts of both local and national government.
It is not fair and not right and must be addressed. Never before has Coastal had so much to win, so many opportunities, but at the moment they remain just that, opportunities… we need to work together, strong leadership and strong community so that we don’t get shafted again and again.
