This is the first of my Blogs that I will publish daily between now and the election, to tell you a little about me, what I stand for and what I want to see for the Coastal Ward.
I am an Active Advocate in the Coastal Ward having worked non-stop since I started a welfare centre in North New Brighton after the Feb 11 quake.
I live in the ward and enjoy both the amazing sense of community and the incredible natural assets, our Coastal Jewel.
I am running with Dean Lester, who is standing as the council candidate with The Peoples Choice. I have worked alongside Dean previously when we both worked as insurance advocates helping the most vulnerable of insurance claimants. To find out more about Dean please go to our website www.coastalward.co.nz.
Some of the issues I have advocated for are footpaths; road repairs; red zone playgrounds; safety in New Brighton; maintenance of New Brighton foreshore and CBD; school closures and mergers; parks upgrades; red zone issues; and many other issues.
Going into the next term I can see the most pressing issues needing strong advocacy are the conversations around Red zone future use and sea level rise.
I feel that with my experience during the last three years as Chairperson of the Burwood Pegasus Community Board, my training in geology, geography and ministry leadership, and my experience in business leadership, accounting, construction and more gives me the background to advocate strongly for my community.
